Preparing for your rock display...
To prepare for your display you might do some additional research.
1. 3 Basic Rock Types - Learn about the 3 basic rock types. Take note not only of their names, but the processes involved in forming each.
2. Igneous Rock-Learn more about igneous rocks. View pictures of granite, diorite, obsidian, pumice. Record information about the rock including the name, description, crystal size, cooling rate, and if it is intrusive or extrusive. Use this information to sort and identify the igneous rocks from the collection.
3. Sedimentary Rock- Learn more about sedimentary rocks. View pictures of sandstone, limestone, shale, conglomerate, breccia, and coal. Record information about the rock including the name, description, crystal size/shape, and the environment in which it likely formed. Use this information to sort and identify the sedimentary rocks from the collection.
4. Metamorphic Rock- Learn more about metamorphic rocks. View pictures of gneiss, marble, slate, and quartzite. Record information about the rock including the name, description, if it foliated or non-foliated, and if it is likely formed from regional or contact metamorphism. Use this information to sort and identify the metamorphic rocks from the collection.
